Oral Surgery – Oncology

This course will review the diagnosis and treatment of oral tumors in dogs and cats. CT-scan, biopsy of the oral cavity and lymph nodes, treatment of tumours of the tongue, lip, cheek, salivary glands and palate as well as variations in mandibulectomy and maxillectomy procedures.

Theory:
• Overview of OMF tumors in dogs and cats
• Work-up of OMF tumors in dogs and cats
• Resection of tongue, lip, cheek, salivary glands and lymph nodes
• Techniques in mandibulectomy procedures
• Techniques in maxillectomy procedures

Practical:

Dr. Alexander M Reiter
Dipl Tzt., DVM, Dipl AVDC, Dipl EVDC.
Alex graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria in 1996. He completed a dentistry and oral surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in 2000 and became a Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College and European Veterinary Dental College in 2001. Alex is Professor and Chief of Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the university’s small animal hospital. His clinical and research interests include advanced periodontal surgery, bone grafting procedures, oral and maxillofacial surgery (trauma and oncology), palate surgery and palatal prosthetics, maxillofacial reconstruction, microsurgery (free microvascular tissue transfer), oral manifestation of systemic disease, and systemic manifestation of oral disease.
